The National Police has released photos of the detention of a suspect in the murder of the former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, and Member of Parliament Andrii Parubiy.
The head of the National Police, Ivan Vyhovskyi, published the photo on his Facebook page. According to him, the suspect had been preparing for the murder for a long time, watched, and planned his crime. Vyhovskyi emphasized that the law enforcement officers needed only 36 hours to track him down and apprehend him.
"On August 30, in the Frankivsk district of Lviv, he disguised himself as a courier and opened fire on the politician right in broad daylight. Eight shots. Cold-blooded cruelty. He even made sure that the victim was dead. And then he tried to hide the traces – changed clothes, got rid of the weapon, and tried to hide in Khmelnytskyi region," – the head of the National Police said.
Vyhovskyi added that despite everything, the criminal was unable to escape.
"The round-the-clock work of the police in Lviv region and the central apparatus of the National Police yielded results – the audacious murderer has been apprehended, and the necessary evidence has been gathered. We know: this crime is not random. It has a Russian trace. Everyone will answer before the law," – the head of the National Police concluded.
Murder
On August 30, 2025, a shooting occurred on Yefremova Street in Lviv, during which an unknown person, disguised as a courier, fired several times at Andrii Parubiy. The politician died at the scene from the injuries sustained.
After that, the shooter fled on an electric bicycle. In connection with this, the police initiated a special operation "Siren." 36 hours after the murder, the suspect was apprehended in Khmelnytskyi region.
Law enforcement does not rule out political motives behind the murder of Andrii Parubiy, as he actively protested against Russian interference and advocated for Ukrainian interests. Various versions are being considered, including a possible Russian trace.
