Ukrainian teachers working in verified weekend and Sunday schools abroad will be able to count their teaching experience towards receiving seniority bonuses. This is reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
The government's decision provides that the experience will be counted only if confirmed by work and meeting the minimum annual workload. It aims to support teachers who continue to teach Ukrainian children abroad.
Teaching experience abroad: what conditions need to be met
The following work will be counted towards Ukrainian experience:
-
in verified Ukrainian weekend schools;
-
with a contract, agreement, or other official documents;
-
with a minimum load of 180 hours per year.
Important: the decision is valid only during the martial law period and one year after its completion. Experience in schools of the aggressor state or countries under sectoral sanctions will not be counted.
Why the decision was made and what will change for teachers
The Ministry of Education and Science emphasizes that the new norm will help teachers maintain their professional development and right to bonuses, even if they work temporarily abroad. For Ukrainian communities, this means supporting education and national identity, as verified weekend schools play a key role in teaching children in Ukrainian and maintaining connections with Ukraine.
Earlier, we reported that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine gave up on the idea of introducing fixed-term contracts for teachers and proposed to establish a single salary for pedagogical workers in the amount of three minimum wages, which will amount to 25941 hryvnias.
