Venezuela After US Strikes: Three Scenarios – From Elections to Total Collapse

Венесуела після ударів США: можливі шляхи розвитку подій – від виборів до повного краху

Situation in Venezuela

Venezuela is on the brink of significant changes due to recent events related to US strikes. Three possible scenarios for the development of the situation are being considered in the country:

  • constitutional power transition;
  • military coup;
  • complete collapse of the regime.

In the case of 'absolute absence of the president', state management will be transferred to Vice President Delcy Rodriguez. Elections are to be held within 30 days after the announcement of the president's absence, and the winner will receive a six-year mandate.

Candidates and Tension

In the 2024 elections, the candidate is Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who is currently in exile in Spain. His candidacy is supported by Maria Corina Machado. However, the situation in the country remains tense. Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez promises to resist foreign troops with armed force, indicating a potential escalation of conflict.

On January 3, a series of powerful explosions occurred in Caracas, after which air raid sirens were activated in the city. These events are taking place against the backdrop of Donald Trump's statement that the US has successfully conducted a large-scale operation against Venezuela and its leader Nicolas Maduro. The situation in the country remains tense, and further developments may significantly impact the political landscape of Venezuela.

The situation in Venezuela is important not only for the country itself but also for the region and the international community. Increased tension may lead to new humanitarian crises that will require attention from international organizations. Concurrently, possible changes in the country's leadership might open new pathways for dialogue between Venezuela and other nations, which is observed against the backdrop of global political and economic changes.
