Iryna Vereshchuk's comments on the accusations of mine-clearing in Chonhar

Iryna Vereshchuk, deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, commented on the accusations of mine-clearing in Chonhar, calling them 'complete nonsense and blatant lies.' She noted that she has not responded to such accusations for four years. Vereshchuk emphasized that there were no mines on the road to Chonhar, and all accusations are unfounded.

Checkpoints and transport connections

After the annexation of Crimea, two checkpoints were established in Ukraine - Chonhar and Kalanchak. The distance from the checkpoint to the line of demarcation was approximately up to two kilometers. People without their own vehicles had to cover this distance on foot for years. In response to citizens' requests, free transportation was provided between the checkpoint and the line of demarcation.

Vereshchuk also expressed her opinion on why some people believe in these lies. She noted that 'it's easier to imagine me with a shovel, digging up mines and putting them in a bucket' than to deal with the real causes and responsibilities.

She stressed the importance of the work of counterintelligence and law enforcement agencies, as well as professional investigative journalists in this matter.

Oleksii Reznikov, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, also commented on the situation, stating that after victory in the war, Ukraine will investigate who cleared Chonhar.

The situation around the accusations of mine-clearing in Chonhar highlights the tension in the ongoing information war in Ukraine. The importance of investigations and objective coverage of events becomes critical, especially in the context of post-war recovery and ensuring security. The reactions of state officials, including Vereshchuk and Reznikov, indicate the seriousness with which the Ukrainian authorities approach issues of security and justice during the conflict.
