Daria Volodina's Parliamentary Mandate Ends

On April 8, the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, accepted the resignation of its member, Daria Volodina. The decision was approved during a session where 253 lawmakers voted in favor of the resolution to terminate her mandate. Her seat will be filled by the next candidate on the party list of the 'Servant of the People' party. This resignation reduces the total number of deputies in the legislature to 392. Such resignations are not uncommon and can occur for various personal or political reasons.

Background on Daria Volodina

Daria Volodina was born on April 16, 1991. She is a graduate of the Economics Faculty of Taras Shevchenko National University and also studied at the Diplomatic Academy under Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2019, she was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation from the 'Servant of the People' party via its national list, where she held the 65th position as a non-partisan candidate. She served on the parliamentary committee for finance, tax, and customs policy and, in 2021, joined the cross-factional association 'Smart Politics' led by Dmytro Razumkov.

The resignation of Volodina's mandate leaves the Verkhovna Rada with 392 deputies. According to the Constitution of Ukraine, the full complement of the parliament is 450 elected representatives. Prior to the full chamber's vote, the Rada's Committee on Regulations, Deputy Ethics, and Organization of Work had supported Volodina's request to resign her mandate.

"In favor – 253. The decision is adopted," stated Ruslan Stefanchuk, confirming the approved resolution.

Volodina's departure may signal shifts within Ukraine's political landscape, as her seat will be assumed by the next candidate from the ruling 'Servant of the People' party list. This event also underscores the ongoing challenge of maintaining the constitutional full roster of 450 deputies, especially during wartime. Observers will be watching to see how this and future personnel changes affect the dynamics within the Ukrainian parliament.
