Ukraine's Parliament Launches Its 15th Session
Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada has commenced its 15th session, setting a new record for the parliament's ninth convocation. First Deputy Chairman Oleksandr Korniienko presided over the opening, which saw 219 members of parliament registered and in attendance, indicating strong participation from lawmakers.
Parliamentary sessions in Ukraine traditionally begin on the first Tuesday of February and the first Tuesday of September each year. The previous 14th session opened on September 2, 2025. This ninth convocation is now the longest-serving in the nation's history, highlighting the legislature's sustained stability and ongoing work.
NATO Reaffirms Its Commitment
The opening of the session featured an address by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who reaffirmed the Alliance's steadfast support for Ukraine. He stated:
'NATO continues its support for Ukraine, including in military equipment, training, and air defense provision, and is prepared to act for years to come.' Mark Rutte
The launch of this new parliamentary session and the reaffirmation of NATO's backing underscore the activity and resilience of Ukraine's legislature, as well as the continuation of vital international security cooperation. Such statements of support are crucial for Ukraine's defense and its European integration path, especially given the ongoing conflict with Russia. This session occurs at a critical juncture for Ukraine's legislative agenda and international partnerships.
