Ukraine's Parliament Approves One-Year Mobilization Deferral for '18-24' Program Veterans

Верховна Рада України затвердила річний утримувальний термін для ветеранів програми «18-24».

Bill No. 13574 Passes into Law

Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has passed Bill No. 13574, granting a one-year deferral from military mobilization to men who have completed a one-year service contract under the '18-24' program. The legislation received support from 243 members of parliament. This move is part of ongoing efforts to balance military needs with support for those who have already served.

Previously, men finishing their contracted service could be subject to immediate mobilization call-ups. The new law, developed by the Ministry of Defense in collaboration with the parliamentary committee on national security, defense, and intelligence, aims to change this practice by providing a 12-month respite.

Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that passing this bill is a crucial step in supporting service members who have served under the '18-24' program.

Benefits of the New Legislation

With this law's adoption, the Ukrainian government seeks to provide better conditions for young service members who have fulfilled their duty. This could positively impact their social reintegration after service. The one-year mobilization deferral may allow these men to return to civilian life, pursue education, or find employment, which is a vital aspect of their societal integration.

  • Support for service members who have completed their contracts
  • Reduction in mobilization pressure
  • Improved conditions for social adaptation
