Confiscation of a LAND ROVER Vehicle Upheld

Ukraine’s Supreme Court has confirmed the legality of seizing a 2021 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER VOQUE, valued at over 3.2 million hryvnias, and transferring it to state ownership. The vehicle was being used by the head of the Southeastern Interregional Department for the Execution of Criminal Penalties under the Ministry of Justice. The civil forfeiture order was originally issued by the High Anti-Corruption Court.

The decision was triggered by a lifestyle audit conducted by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), alongside evidence from the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO). Although the official’s daughter purchased the car in 2023, the official himself remained its actual user. The NACP concluded that the vehicle could not have been acquired through lawful income.

Audit Results and Broader Implications

The Supreme Court’s ruling is final and cannot be appealed. Notably, during the first quarter of 2026, the NACP referred 13 case files and substantiated conclusions to law enforcement agencies, with the total value of identified violations exceeding 100 million hryvnias.

This case underscores the efforts of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies to combat high-level corruption. The importance of such rulings lies not only in asset forfeiture but also in setting precedents that may influence the behavior of public officials. Lifestyle monitoring and asset control are becoming key tools to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of state resources.

As the fight against corruption intensifies, recent developments highlight the ongoing efforts of Ukrainian authorities. For instance, the case involving a Lviv region council member has recently been escalated to court by the country's anti-corruption agencies. This situation further demonstrates the commitment to holding public officials accountable for their actions.
