Despite active discussions about possible elections in Ukraine, the main obstacle to their holding remains the war. People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak believes that the government is indeed discussing the scenario of presidential elections, but its implementation in the near future is practically impossible due to the lack of even a temporary ceasefire.

Why, according to Zheleznyak, the government is thinking about elections

According to the deputy, discussions about elections are activated every time the rating of the current government rises. He claims that it is the ratings, rather than the military situation or public demand, that are the main factors in assessing the possibility of conducting a campaign.

Zheleznyak suggested that if such a decision is made, presidential elections could be held in the shortest possible time, and certain provisions of electoral legislation could be adjusted without a major reform. He also expressed the opinion that after presidential elections, the government could also initiate parliamentary ones. At the same time, the deputy stressed that these are his personal assessments, not confirmed decisions.

What, according to the deputy, hinders the holding of elections

The main obstacle, Zheleznyak named the lack of a ceasefire. He noted that even for conducting a rapid electoral campaign, at least a temporary truce is necessary, but currently, in his assessment, Russia does not demonstrate readiness to stop hostilities.

The deputy also expressed the conviction that the war will not end in the near future, and the Russian side, on the contrary, is preparing to continue attacks and a difficult winter for Ukraine. Therefore, in his opinion, the government should focus on preparing the country for the next heating season, strengthening defense, and solving internal problems, rather than preparing for possible elections.

Earlier, Zheleznyak announced an offensive against corrupt officials due to the EU's demands and 90 billion euros.
