Explosion in Khmelnytskyi: woman searched under the rubble, child injured

Elimination of the consequences of the explosion in Khmelnytskyi


Rescuers in Khmelnytskyi are actively working to eliminate the aftermath of the explosion in a multi-storey building, as a result of which nine apartments were destroyed and another 15 were damaged. Five people were injured, including a child. This was reported by 'Glavkom'.



Currently, the main task of the rescuers is to find a woman born in 1973 who, according to preliminary information, may be under the rubble. All services are working at the scene: rescuers, police, medics, and psychologists from the Red Cross, who are coordinating search operations.



In order to provide the necessary assistance to the victims, a Resilience Point was created and tents of the Ukrainian Red Cross were deployed. The search and rescue operation is ongoing, and final conclusions regarding the causes of the explosion will be made after the complete clearing of the rubble and expert examination.


The mayor of Khmelnytskyi, Oleksandr Symchyshyn, reported that the destruction was caused by a household gas explosion. The mayor stated that experts are assessing the risk of further destruction of the building and determining the need for the relocation of residents.



Currently, an investigation into several versions of the cause of the explosion is underway. The completion of the investigation and the publication of the final version are expected from law enforcement agencies.
