Vice President's Diplomatic Tour

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance will travel to Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Italy in February. A central aim of these visits is to reinforce the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This pact, which was signed at the White House last August, was brokered by then-President Donald Trump and signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The visit underscores the United States' ongoing diplomatic engagement in a region with a history of protracted conflict.

The agreement formally renounces any territorial claims between the two nations, ensuring they will not be pursued in the future. Both sides also committed to respecting each other's sovereignty, territorial integrity, the inviolability of international borders, and political independence.

Agenda for the Trip

During his trip, J.D. Vance also plans to discuss concluding a peaceful nuclear cooperation agreement with Armenia and strengthening the strategic partnership with Azerbaijan. The U.S. intends to advance collaboration in the semiconductor sector as well.

Additionally, Vice President Vance will visit Italy as part of the U.S. delegation to the Winter Olympic Games.

Vance's itinerary highlights the active role the United States continues to play in mediating the long-standing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Strengthening the existing peace framework and exploring new areas of cooperation could significantly impact regional stability. His attendance at the Winter Olympics in Italy further adds a dimension of international partnership, potentially bolstering ties with European allies.
