Ukrainian soldier on captivity in Russia: torture, starvation, and losing 30 kg

Військовослужбовець України в полоні: страждання, голод і втрата ваги.

Danylo Murashkin, a Ukrainian soldier who participated in the defense of Mariupol against Russian invaders, shared his horrific experience in Russian captivity. He spoke about the harsh conditions of detention in prisons and the abuse he endured in the Russian colony in Taganrog.

Murashkin spent over three years in captivity, defending his country while still quite young. He lost 30 kilograms and had his leg amputated during the torture.

‘They broke my leg with an iron pipe. They beat me until I could no longer stand. I fell, and they continued to beat it. It was all black.’

After the prisoner exchange with Russia, Murashkin learned that he had a torn muscle, so now his leg is accompanied by a 'tumor.' He also spoke about the horrific starvation and inhumane conditions he had to endure in captivity.

The Ukrainian soldier emphasized the importance of remembering all Ukrainian soldiers who sacrificed their lives or health for their country during Russian aggression. His story is yet another testament to the cruelty and abuse perpetrated by the Russian side in the war against Ukraine.
