Putin's War Is Failing: Expert Highlights Ukraine's Key Achievements

Українці демонструють незламність та здобувають важливі перемоги в боротьбі за свою свободу.

Ukraine's Air Defense Successes and Current Situation

After visiting Ukraine as part of the Renew Democracy Initiative delegation, American expert Seth Stodder concluded that Russian President Vladimir Putin's war is failing. Ukraine has made significant strides in air defense, regularly intercepting between 80 and 90 percent of drones and missiles, inflicting heavy losses on Russian forces. In April, Ukrainian forces reported over 35,000 Russian soldiers killed or severely wounded, with Kyiv estimating total Russian casualties at more than 1.3 million troops.

Over recent months, Ukraine has reclaimed over 480 square kilometers of territory, aided by effective use of FPV drones—particularly the heavy Baba Yaga bombers. Enemy positions were captured using only robots, without a single soldier involved.

“Human life is priceless, but robots don't bleed.”

Drone Production and International Support

Under Oleksandr Kamyshin's leadership, Ukraine scaled up drone production from 2,000 per year to over 4 million in 2025, with a target of 7 million drones by 2026. Both sides have begun using AI-controlled autonomous drones, fundamentally changing the nature of warfare. Naval drones have driven Russia's Black Sea Fleet out of combat and are actively hunting the shadow fleet of tankers in the Mediterranean.

Meanwhile, British intelligence agency MI6 assesses that Ukraine now holds its strongest battlefield position in nearly a year. International partners are supplying new Patriot interceptor missiles, drones, and defense agreements with Gulf states. However, under Donald Trump's administration, the United States has withdrawn support for Ukraine. U.S. Vice President JD Vance called ending support for Ukraine one of the administration's greatest achievements, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated this is not America's war.

Despite constant shelling, Putin has failed to break Ukrainian resolve. People in Kharkiv continue attending schools, working, and gathering in cafes—acts that have become a quiet form of resistance. Ukraine is demonstrating not only its capacity for innovation but also a robust production base, allowing it to remain an active player in this war despite the challenges.

This situation in Ukraine underscores the importance of international support and technological innovation in modern conflicts. The surge in drone production and their combat effectiveness have become significant factors in countering aggression. Partnerships with Western countries, particularly in supplying modern weaponry, could determine the war's future course and influence the strategic situation in the region.

As Ukraine continues to enhance its defense capabilities and reclaim territory, the implications of regional conflicts are also influencing its global standing. Recent Iranian strikes in the Middle East have inadvertently spotlighted Ukraine's resilience and strategic importance on the world stage.
