Ukrainian Soldier Oleksandr Polukishnik Sets New National Record with 18-Meter Half-Spin Knife Throw

Український військовослужбовець Олександр Полукішник вражає всіх новим досягненням, виконавши кидок ножа з півобертом на рекордну відстань.

Oleksandr Polukishnik Breaks Ukraine’s National Knife-Throwing Distance Record

Oleksandr Polukishnik, a serviceman from a separate special forces unit, has established a new Ukrainian record for the longest distance in a half-spin knife throw, reaching 18 meters. This achievement was officially recorded on August 22 and confirmed by Lana Vetrova, head of the National Register of Records of Ukraine. At 37 years old, Oleksandr has been serving in the Ukrainian armed forces since 2014 and holds the title of European champion in this discipline.

Understanding the Half-Spin Knife Throw Technique and Other Notable Records

The half-spin knife throw, known as the "Half-spin," is considered one of the most captivating and effective techniques in the sport. Lana Vetrova explained,

"The key characteristic is that the knife completes a single 180-degree rotation mid-flight. The handle flips backward while the blade aligns perfectly forward, entering the target at a right angle."
Oleksandr not only masters this technique but also trains fellow soldiers, recognizing its critical role in preparing special forces personnel.

On the same day in Lviv, Ukraine witnessed another record: the largest group performing the crossfit workout 'Murph.' This event brought together soldiers, veterans, and representatives from the Defense and Security Forces. The 'Murph' circuit consists of:

  • 1.6 km run,
  • 100 pull-ups,
  • 200 push-ups,
  • 300 squats, followed by another 1.6 km run.

Additional athletic milestones by Ukrainian military personnel and veterans were also recorded. For instance, Andriy Yakubenko, a veteran from Prykarpattia, set a world record in adaptive sports by covering 306 meters in one minute on a rowing machine using only one arm. Sergeant Serhiy Bilov achieved a Ukrainian record for one-handed push-ups performed on the backs of the hands. Moreover, members of the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade "Edelweiss" raised their brigade flag to an altitude of 794.9 meters above the summit of Hoverla using a drone, setting another unique record.

These accomplishments by Oleksandr Polukishnik and other servicemen highlight not only their exceptional physical conditioning but also emphasize the vital role of sports in the lives of Ukrainian military personnel. Such records symbolize the strength, endurance, and dedication that define Ukraine’s defenders. Furthermore, these feats contribute to promoting sports among the youth and underscore the importance of physical fitness in military training.

In addition to Polukishnik's remarkable knife-throwing achievement, the spirit of excellence among young Ukrainians is also evident in other fields. For example, at just 13 years old, a young talent has emerged as Ukraine's youngest certified barber, showcasing the diverse skills and determination of the nation's youth. These accomplishments highlight the commitment of Ukrainians to excel, whether in sports or trades, reinforcing a sense of national pride and resilience.
