Viktor Yushchenko's Remarks on the 2026 Olympic Games

Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, the nation's third head of state, has reflected on the performance of Ukrainian athletes at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. The games concluded on February 22, 2026, following sixteen days of intense competition across sixteen sports, which awarded 116 medal sets.

Yushchenko observed that in the eyes of the returning athletes, he saw not fatigue but strength and determination.

"I look into the eyes of our young men and women returning from the Italian arenas... and I do not see exhaustion there. I see what we call the genetic code of champions," stated Viktor Yushchenko.
He attributed this unbreakable strength to the spirit flowing in Ukrainian blood, inherited from the proud Cossacks and all the heroes who, for centuries, defended Ukrainians' right to be masters of their own land.

Competition Outcomes and Ukraine's Future

Commenting on the results, Yushchenko stressed that the Olympics are but a single day in the life of an eternal nation.

"Yes, perhaps today the metal has not yet turned to pure gold in every discipline... but this fire tempers our will. I feel we have become stronger precisely through these trials. We are learning, we are being tempered," said Yushchenko.

Yushchenko also expressed profound confidence that Ukraine's greatest achievements lie ahead.

"I am deeply convinced... I believe with every fiber of my being: our main finish line is still ahead. And it will be a finish where the world finally becomes in harmony with Ukraine," he declared.
He believes Ukrainians will overcome all difficulties, in sport and in life, because truth is on their side and victory will be achieved through the nation's indomitable spirit.
