Developments in Iryna Mudra’s Case
On September 28, the Higher Anti-Corruption Court declined to alter the detention conditions of Iryna Mudra, the former deputy head of the Office of the President, deciding she will remain in custody. Mudra's defense team requested her release on bail, citing a deposit of nearly 13 million hryvnias into the court’s account. However, the prosecutor opposed any modification to her detention.
The defense was unable to transfer the full amount due to banking transaction issues. Mudra's lawyer, Artem Krykun-Trush, explained that friends, colleagues, and her partner attempted to process payments through over ten different banks without success. Additionally, the defense highlighted problematic detention conditions at Lukyanivska pre-trial detention center, including the lack of shelter during air raid alerts. Mudra is a mother to an eight-year-old son.

Joining the hearing remotely, Mudra expressed her willingness to surrender her passports, wear an electronic monitoring bracelet, and comply with all court-imposed conditions. Despite this, the prosecutor reiterated opposition to changing her detention status, insisting she remain behind bars. Ultimately, the Higher Anti-Corruption Court dismissed the defense's request.
In a related move, Petro Poroshenko’s legal team petitioned the Higher Anti-Corruption Court, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, and the Office of the Prosecutor General to open a criminal investigation into alleged pressure on judges. They also sought to officially recognize Poroshenko as a victim in Mudra’s case. Reports suggest Mudra may have exploited Igor Dashutin, Chair of the Administrative Cassation Court within the Supreme Court, to influence other judges.
