Tragedy Strikes in Solomianskyi District
A 12-year-old boy, Hryhorii Hlushych, lost his life in a traffic accident on June 5 in Kyiv's Solomianskyi District. The incident occurred at the intersection of Umanska and Ivan Svitlychny Streets when the driver of a luxury Mercedes-Benz SUV plowed into the structures of an underground pedestrian crossing. Four people died in the crash, including Hryhorii, who attended the Waldorf school 'Sofiia' in Kyiv. He had just completed the sixth grade at this school in 2024.
Friends and classmates describe Hryhorii Hlushych as a kind and responsible child. 'He was responsible and quite mature for his age,' said the mother of one of his classmates. Hryhorii dreamed of becoming a programmer and was actively preparing for the entrance exam to a physics and mathematics lyceum. 'He has an older sister. His father is at war. And he dreamed of being a programmer,' added his classmate Ivan.
Suspect Apprehended
Law enforcement officers arrested the driver responsible for the crash on June 6. He has been identified as Pavlo Pleshivtsev, born in 1976, a resident of the Kherson region. Pleshivtsev leads the congregation of Evangelical Christian Baptists known as the 'Church of the Village of Pidstepne.' He has been formally charged and faces up to 10 years in prison. Prior to this tragedy, Pleshivtsev had been involved in four recorded accidents, two of which occurred in 2024. He had also been fined multiple times for systematically exceeding speed limits.
