Arrest of Mercedes-Benz Driver in Kyiv
According to Главком: Authorities in Kyiv have detained the driver of a Mercedes-Benz who drove into an underground pedestrian crossing on Chokolivsky Boulevard on the evening of June 5, resulting in four deaths. The driver has been identified as Pavlo Pleshivtsev, born in 1976 and a resident of the Kherson region. According to law enforcement, he serves as the head of the Evangelical Christian Baptist community at the church in the village of Pidstepne.
The Tragedy and Its Aftermath
The crash claimed four lives, including:
- a 12-year-old boy,
- a 47-year-old woman,
- two police officers aged 21 and 23.
This devastating incident has sparked widespread public outcry and drawn intense scrutiny from law enforcement agencies. Records show that prior to this accident, Pavlo Pleshivtsev had been involved in four documented traffic collisions, two of which occurred in 2024. He had also accumulated multiple fines for repeatedly exceeding speed limits.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The inquiry is being conducted by the Main Directorate of the National Police of Kyiv. Given the severity of the consequences, the case's resolution and subsequent actions by authorities will be closely watched by both the public and the media.
This tragedy underscores the critical need for adherence to traffic regulations and may reignite discussions on pedestrian safety in Ukraine.
The incident, which claimed four lives, has once again highlighted concerns about insufficient accountability for traffic violations. It could also prompt initiatives to tighten oversight of drivers with a history of infractions.
The tragic incident in Kyiv is not an isolated case, as evidenced by another recent fatal accident involving a driver in Khmelnytskyi. The detention of a BMW driver pending trial has raised similar concerns about road safety and accountability for reckless driving. Such incidents highlight the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
