Age Restrictions for Obtaining a Driver's License
In Ukraine, there are age restrictions for obtaining a driver's license, which depend on the category of the vehicle and are also regulated by fines for violating traffic rules. In particular, mopeds and motorcycles can be driven from the age of 16, while cars and trucks can be driven from 18. For drivers who wish to operate vehicles of categories BE and CE, the minimum age is 19, and for buses of category 'D' – 21 years.
Fines for Violating Traffic Rules
Fines for violating traffic rules in Ukraine also have their peculiarities. Among the main fines:
- For driving without documents for underage drivers – 3400 hryvnias;
- For exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km/h – 340 hryvnias;
- For exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h – 1700 hryvnias.
It is important to note that there is a 50% discount on fines when paid within 10 days.
In addition, to obtain a driver's license, one must pass a theoretical and practical exam. The cost of the theoretical exam is 250 hryvnias, and the practical exam is 420 hryvnias. The number of attempts to pass the exam is unlimited, but there must be a 10-day interval between them. Draft law No. 8082 has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada, but its details are currently not disclosed.
Establishing age restrictions and fines aims to improve road safety in Ukraine.
Clear regulation of driver age based on the category of the vehicle can help reduce the number of traffic accidents, especially among youth. Draft law No. 8082, which is currently under consideration, may lead to further changes in legislation regarding traffic rules and driver training.
