Persistent Recruitment Failures
A study by Work.ua has identified recurring failures in recruitment practices that are causing job seekers to lose faith in the labor market. The primary issues candidates face include:
- ghosting by recruiters;
- job descriptions that do not match reality;
- the prevalence of misleading or 'phantom' job postings.
Over 500 job seekers participated in the Work.ua research, with many reporting they have been unable to secure employment for over six months. A frequent complaint is ghosting, where a recruiter ceases all communication after initial contact, leaving candidates' questions unanswered. This experience breeds frustration and damages trust in potential employers.
Another significant problem is the mismatch between a job posting and the actual role. Candidates often discover that working conditions, salary, or requirements differ substantially from what was advertised. The second most common grievance involves unexpected salary details and misleading job conditions, which further complicates the job search.
Misleading and 'Phantom' Job Listings
The labor market also suffers from 'phantom' vacancies that lack a real hiring intent, as well as entry-level offers with unrealistic expectations. These issues create a negative perception of the job market and undermine confidence in recruiters. As a result, candidates become disillusioned, which may lead to decreased activity in their job search efforts.
These findings underscore the critical need for improved communication between recruiters and candidates, along with greater transparency and accuracy in job postings. In a competitive job market, addressing these systemic problems is essential for rebuilding candidate trust and improving the overall efficiency of the hiring process.
