New taxes for electric car owners in Ukraine
Starting from January 1, new taxes will be introduced for electric car owners in Ukraine, including the cancellation of the VAT exemption. This will lead to a significant increase in the cost of importing electric vehicles, as 20% VAT will need to be added to their cost. The cancellation of the VAT exemption is an important step that will affect the electric vehicle market in Ukraine.
At the same time, the duty on electric cars will remain zero, which may mitigate the negative impact of the new tax changes on consumers. However, the excise tax on electric cars will amount to 1 euro for each kilowatt of battery capacity. The average excise duty for one vehicle will be around 5000 hryvnias. These changes could significantly impact the cost of electric cars and their availability for Ukrainian consumers.
Government reaction and consequences for consumers
"The government has not issued any special decrees regarding tax increases," said Stanislav Buchatsky.
This indicates that the new tax conditions are the result of changes in legislation regarding the taxation of electric vehicles. In light of the new regulations, Ukrainians planning to purchase an electric vehicle should be prepared for changes in pricing.
The introduction of new taxes on electric cars reflects a change in state policy regarding the taxation of this market segment. The cancellation of the VAT exemption and the introduction of excise duties could significantly affect the demand for electric cars in Ukraine, potentially slowing the transition to environmentally friendly modes of transport. Consumers who previously regarded electric vehicles as an economical alternative may now face new financial challenges when deciding to purchase.
