The first trip on the new route was made by the ferry Copernicus, which left Gdańsk in the evening and arrived in Karlskrona the next day around noon.
The regular service will be provided by two vessels of Unity Line - Copernicus and Skania. The journey across the Baltic Sea will take approximately 13 hours.
The ferries will operate six times a week. Departures from Gdańsk and Karlskrona are scheduled for the evenings, with arrivals in the morning or by noon the next day.
Ferry connection Poland - Sweden: what is known about the new route
The new vessels are designed for both passenger and freight transport. Each ferry can simultaneously carry about 90 trucks up to 17 meters long.
One of the vessels will primarily be used for freight transportation, while the other, a RoPax type, will also accommodate passengers. Cabins are available on board, and dining facilities operate.
The Polish Ministry of Infrastructure notes that the opening of the new route is significant not only for the tourism sector but also for the development of international logistics and trade.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka emphasized that the cooperation of Polish shipping companies has allowed the creation of a competitive offer in the Baltic Sea and established a new transport corridor for business, carriers, and international trade.
It is worth noting that Polish workers are among the most overloaded in the European Union. In 2025, the average length of the working week in the country was 38 hours, which significantly exceeds the average in the EU.
