The NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the allocation of over one billion dollars from European members of the Alliance for the purchase of American weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The head of state announced this on August 5 on social media after a phone call with the head of the North Atlantic bloc.
According to the Ukrainian leader, attracting such an amount in just two days demonstrates the effectiveness of the NSATU mechanism and the implementation of agreements reached at the NATO summit in The Hague. Zelensky thanked Rutte for coordinating this process.
Expansion of military assistance and diplomatic support
The Alliance Secretary General informed about negotiations with other countries that expressed readiness to join the military assistance program for Kyiv. Specific countries and the amounts of their potential contributions were not specified during the conversation.
The President of Ukraine detailed the situation in Kharkiv and other settlements that are under intense Russian shelling. The parties discussed the operational situation at the front line and the current needs of Ukrainian servicemen in weapons and equipment.
Particular attention in the conversation was paid to coordinating diplomatic efforts with international partners to expand the scope of cooperation and support for Ukraine. 'There are good proposals. We will implement them,' noted Zelensky, without disclosing details of new initiatives.
The events and negotiations that took place between Ukrainian and NATO partners indicate the expansion of military assistance to Ukraine, as well as an increase in diplomatic support. This could be a step forward in strengthening the country's defense capabilities and ensuring its security.
