Most of them are from Donetsk and Luhansk
Approximately half a million Ukrainians obtained Russian citizenship in 2019.
'As for Ukrainian citizens in general, we have, if we look at the figures, almost 500 thousand people who acquired Russian citizenship; in the year before last, there were 270 thousand,' reported Valentina Kazakova, head of the Main Directorate for Migration Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
'And this is not only due to Donetsk and Luhansk, although, of course, they are the majority,' she clarified.
Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation stated that 196 thousand people had obtained Russian citizenship in Donbas.
It is known that Ukraine recognized the Russian passports issued to Ukrainian citizens in the uncontrolled territory of Donbas as illegal.
