The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, called on Serbs in northern Kosovo to end the blockade and dismantle the barricades.

Belgrade received 'reliable guarantees' from the European Union and the United States, reports the head of the Serbian government representation in Kosovo, Petar Petković, as informed by RTS.

This concerns the release of Serbian police officer Dejan Pantić from custody, assurances about the absence of lists of Kosovo Serbs that Pristina intends to arrest, and guarantees from NATO peacekeeping forces KFOR that Kosovo security forces will not be able to enter northern municipalities without their prior consent.

Vučić held a 'serious and difficult' meeting with representatives of Serbs from northern Kosovo.

'He urged our Serbs to remove the barricades. They said they only trust him and not the Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti. The teacher told them to return to northern Kosovo and present these guarantees to the people,' said Petković.

On December 10, a new escalation began in northern Kosovo involving Serbs. They erected barricades on the region's roads after the Kosovo police detained a former guardian of Serbian origin.

On December 11, Kurti called on the NATO mission in Kosovo to remove all barricades as they violate the right to freedom of movement.

Vučić stated that Kosovo intends to try to 'resolve the Serbian issue' and accused 'part of the international community' of inaction while urging Kosovo Serbs and Albanians to remain calm.
