The battles for the city of Vovchansk have been ongoing for over 500 days, during which the Russian army has suffered enormous losses. There are already 15,000 confirmed dead military personnel.
The enemy continues its attempts to storm the city, using a tactic of relentless wave attacks. After a recent repulsion by Ukrainian infantry, the Russians have shifted to massive airstrikes and artillery shelling in an attempt to break through the defensive lines.
According to officer Ruslana Bohdan, ex-convicts dominate the front assault squads of the militants. The command promises them amnesty and the cancellation of convictions for capturing the city, but at the same time threatens them with death in case of refusal. This is confirmed by the testimonies of prisoners who describe scenes of stepping over the bodies of their comrades in the struggle for Vovchansk.
