Colonel Bobrovsky's Alleged Corruption
Colonel Maksym Bobrovsky, deputy commander of the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky, has been detained on suspicion of accepting a bribe. He is accused of taking money to influence a decision regarding a soldier's transfer. A pre-trial investigation is underway, with formal suspicion already announced and a preventive measure selected. According to the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Eastern Region, the incident occurred in early March 2024. Colonel Bobrovsky is suspected of demanding $4,000 USD to influence the outcome of a serviceman's transfer request. The payment was arranged in two installments. On April 16, 2026, while receiving the second $2,000 payment, the colonel was caught red-handed and detained.
Legal Proceedings and Command Response
The detention was carried out by law enforcement under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The colonel has been notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which covers abuse of influence combined with extortion of an illegal benefit. A court has ordered him held in custody, with bail set at nearly one million hryvnias. This charge carries a potential prison sentence of 3 to 8 years with property confiscation.
The 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade is tasked with holding critical defensive lines in the Kharkiv direction. The brigade's command has expressed its readiness to support the pre-trial investigation, stating:
'We are interested in a swift, comprehensive, and objective establishment of all the circumstances of the case.'
In a separate but related development, Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) have detained an employee of the SBU's Main Directorate in Kyiv and the region. This individual is suspected of accepting a $68,000 USD bribe to resolve issues related to removing individuals from a search list, deferring mobilization, and avoiding legal liability. These incidents point to systemic corruption challenges within state institutions that require urgent investigation.
