Expert Warns of New Threats to Ukraine from Protracted Middle East Conflict

Експерти підкреслюють нові ризики для України внаслідок затяжного конфлікту на Близькому Сході.

How the Middle East Conflict Poses a Threat to Ukraine

International security expert Tamirlan Vagabov has outlined specific dangers that a prolonged Middle East conflict could create for Ukraine. He warned of a potential financial spiral that could result in:

  • Increased Russian resources for weapons production and mercenaries;
  • Diminished support from European nations.

These conditions could trigger significant political shifts within the European Union.

Vagabov stressed that a drawn-out conflict would have severe consequences for Ukraine.

“If, God forbid, it drags on for a long time, we will enter a financial spiral, a kind of race with Russia. They will earn more. Consequently, they will have more resources for production, for purchasing weapons, hiring mercenaries, and other things,”
the expert noted.

Political Landscape in Europe

Political analyst Yuriy Romanenko also expressed concern about the European situation, pointing out that Ukraine's post-war reconstruction will require hundreds of billions of dollars. Vagabov emphasized the critical importance of European support but highlighted risks stemming from political factionalism within the EU.

“We see what a price we paid for those 90 billion. There is Orban today. There is Babiš in the Czech Republic and the ANO party, which are absolutely not inclined to close cooperation with us and could block it. There is Slovakia, there is factionalism within Germany,”
he commented.

Vagabov further voiced doubts about the political situation in France ahead of future elections.

“I don't know what will happen in France in a year, when Macron leaves,”
the expert stated. He underscored that “this financial race, this budgetary race, could provoke certain trends in Europe that will not be advantageous for us.” Vagabov expressed hope that the war would not last longer than two weeks, as a swift resolution would benefit Ukraine.

The ongoing Middle East crisis has the potential to reshape Europe's political and economic landscape, directly impacting the level of support for Ukraine in its war with Russia. A reduction in the EU's financial capacity or heightened internal divisions could complicate the delivery of aid, which is vital for Ukraine's post-war recovery. The political developments in France and other key European nations will therefore be crucial in determining the strength of international backing for Ukraine in the coming months.
