Detention at the Border with Belarus: Nearly 1400 Attempts of Illegal Crossing

Ukrainians continue to make attempts to illegally cross the border, particularly through Belarus, where a significant increase in escape attempts has been recorded. Border guards report nearly 1400 detentions in this direction. Responsibility for such actions is provided for in both the administrative and criminal codes of Ukraine.

At the border with Belarus, which stretches over 1000 km, Ukrainian border guards are actively detaining citizens who attempt to break the law. Traditionally, Romania and Moldova remain the leaders in terms of the number of violators, but the situation at the border with Belarus raises particular concern. According to information, cases are recorded daily where citizens attempt to illegally cross the state border.

Legal Consequences and Comments

According to Article 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses (Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses), illegal border crossing can result in a fine ranging from 3400 to 8500 UAH or administrative arrest. In addition, evasion from mobilization can lead to the reclassification of actions under Article 336 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for imprisonment for a term of 3 to 5 years.

'Every day we detain citizens who wish to illegally cross the border. And this happens in many directions. First of all, the most of them are detained at the border with Romania and Moldova.' Andriy Demchenko, representative of the border service

The increase in the number of attempts to illegally cross the border with Belarus may indicate rising tensions in society and the desire of citizens to avoid mobilization or other social problems. In the context of the war in Ukraine, issues of security and control at the borders become critically important, requiring efforts from the state to maintain order and legality. It is noted that border guards must remain vigilant, as the situation may change depending on the internal and external policies of the country.
