Detentions at the Border with Belarus
In 2025, around 1400 individuals were detained at the border with Belarus while attempting to cross it illegally. This indicates an increase in attempts to leave the country illegally, especially among men of conscription age. In addition to detentions, law enforcement exposed channels for the illegal transportation of these individuals abroad.
In Vinnytsia region, border guards rescued a man who was trying to reach Moldova on an inflatable mattress. This case highlights the variety of methods that violators use. At the same time, a channel for the illegal transportation of men of conscription age was discovered in Transcarpathia, which also indicates active attempts to evade conscription.
Furthermore, on the outskirts of the village of Yanosh, border guards stopped an armored vehicle that was transporting a man of conscription age to the border with Hungary. These events confirm the existence of organized schemes used for illegal departure from the country. As Andriy Demchenko noted,
"there are also attempts to illegally cross the border in the direction of the border with Belarus. And we are detaining these violators."
Efforts of Law Enforcement Agencies
It is worth noting that the Yavoriv District Court in Lviv region has already punished two border guards with a fine of 17,000 UAH for their involvement in these crimes. These measures reflect the efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating illegal migration flows and underline the importance of control at the state border.
In recent years, there has been an increase in attempts to leave Ukraine illegally, which may be related to socio-economic and political factors. The detentions and exposure of smuggling channels testify to the activity of law enforcement agencies in addressing these phenomena. However, despite the measures taken, the issue of illegal migration remains relevant, and it is important to continue monitoring the situation at the border to prevent similar cases in the future.
