Ukraine's Roster for the European Wrestling Championships
Ukraine has selected a 30-athlete squad to compete at the upcoming European Wrestling Championships in Tirana. The team comprises ten wrestlers in each of the three Olympic styles: men's freestyle, women's freestyle, and Greco-Roman. Notably absent from the roster is Parviz Nasibov, a top medal contender, who is skipping this event to focus his preparation on the 2026 World Championships.
In the 72 kg Greco-Roman category, Dmytro Vasyliev will compete in place of Nasibov. The Ukrainian contingent includes four reigning European champions, while ten wrestlers will be making their debut at this level. Four of these newcomers will compete in Greco-Roman wrestling.
This selection follows a strong performance in March 2026, where Ukrainian wrestlers secured 30 medals at a tournament in Bulgaria. Parviz Nasibov was named the best Greco-Roman wrestler of that competition.

The European Championships serve as a key benchmark event in the Olympic cycle, offering valuable ranking points and experience. The inclusion of debutants could inject fresh energy and provide new opportunities for the squad, potentially boosting its overall results. For athletes like Parviz Nasibov, focusing on preparation for the 2026 World Championships represents a strategic long-term career decision.
As the excitement builds for the European Wrestling Championships, it's worth noting that other Ukrainian sports teams are also gearing up for international competitions. For instance, the judo team has recently announced its roster for the same year, although they face challenges with key athletes sidelined due to injuries. This highlights the ongoing preparations and hurdles faced by Ukrainian athletes across various disciplines.
