12 Dead in Horrific Crash on Mykolaiv-Odesa Highway, Zelenskyy Reports

Трагічна аварія на трасі Миколаїв-Одеща забрала життя дванадцяти осіб, повідомляє Зеленський.

Deadly Collision on the Mykolaiv-Odesa Route

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy received a briefing from Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko about a catastrophic road accident on the Mykolaiv-Odesa highway. The crash, which involved a truck and a minibus, left 12 people dead and 6 others injured. It occurred on July 4 at 7:40 a.m. between the villages of Krasne and Nechayane.

According to reports, the Mercedes Sprinter minibus was traveling from Odesa to Mykolaiv when it veered off the road, overturned, and careened into oncoming traffic, colliding with a Volvo truck. Emergency crews—including rescue workers, police, and medical personnel—are on the scene providing aid and working to determine the circumstances of the crash, as well as the identities of the deceased and injured.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy: 'A truck and a minibus collided on the Mykolaiv-Odesa highway. Unfortunately, as of now, we know of twelve fatalities. Six people are injured.'

The State Emergency Service (SES) has released footage from the scene, underscoring the severity of the incident. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation.

Road Safety Under the Spotlight

This tragic event highlights the critical need for strict adherence to traffic rules, particularly on high-risk road sections. High speeds and heavy traffic on highways can lead to devastating outcomes, as this case demonstrates. Moreover, the incident has reignited calls for better infrastructure and safety measures on Ukraine's roads.

This recent incident is not an isolated case, as a similar tragedy occurred earlier in the Mykolaiv region, where nine individuals lost their lives when a minibus collided with a truck on the M-14 highway. Such repeated occurrences emphasize the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures across Ukraine.
