Discussion of the confiscation of Ukrainian assets

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, plans to discuss with the future Prime Minister of Hungary, Peter Marton, the issue of the confiscation of Ukrainian assets that occurred on the territory of Hungary. Peter Marton, who is the winner of the elections in Hungary, intends to raise other issues; however, the discussion of asset confiscation will take place only after his swearing-in.

In early March, Hungarian security forces detained two cash-in-transit vehicles of Oschadbank and seven employees, confiscating money and gold. On March 5, Oschadbank stated that its employees, cash-in-transit vehicles, and valuables were kidnapped. The transportation took place between Raiffeisen Bank in Austria and Oschadbank Ukraine. The Hungarian side explained its actions due to suspicions of money laundering.

The cash-in-transit employees were released, but the money and gold remained in Hungary. Marton also outlined his position on Ukraine, the European Union, and the Druzhba oil pipeline. He commented on the prospects of resuming oil transportation through the pipeline, noting that

Energy security and economic consequences

This situation raises concerns from the Ukrainian leadership, emphasizing the importance of discussing these issues in the future.

The discussion of the confiscation of Ukrainian assets in Hungary is an important stage in the relations between the two countries, as it may impact Ukraine's financial security. Negotiations with the new Prime Minister could be crucial for resolving the conflict regarding the assets remaining on the territory of Hungary. Also, the issues of oil transportation are important, as they may have significant economic consequences for both countries in the context of energy security in the region.

As discussions between Zelensky and Marton unfold, the implications for energy security, particularly regarding the Druzhba oil pipeline, are becoming increasingly significant. The complexities of these negotiations could influence not only the resolution of asset confiscation but also broader economic ties between Ukraine and Hungary.
