Ukrainian President Attends Ramadan Iftar
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy participated in an iftar, the evening meal that breaks the daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan. The event brought together members of the Muslim community, diplomats, military personnel, leaders of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, and Ukrainian Muslim soldiers. Among the attendees was also Internal Affairs Minister Ihor Klymenko.
Hopes for Peace and Liberation
During the iftar, Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine remembers all its occupied territories. He expressed hope that the next Ramadan would be celebrated in peace, stating:
“For the thirteenth Ramadan, the Ukrainian Muslim community and the Crimean Tatar people are meeting under such conditions, difficult conditions—under the conditions of russian aggression, under russian strikes. We very much want next year's Ramadan to be in peace. And we wish this for absolutely all peoples who are now in danger, who are now at war.”
This iftar served as a significant event for uniting representatives of different communities in Ukraine during a challenging time. The gathering highlights the diversity of Ukrainian society and its unified front against the ongoing invasion.
The president's participation underscores the importance of inter-ethnic unity and support for diversity in Ukraine, especially within the context of the prolonged war. Such initiatives help strengthen bonds between different ethnic and religious groups, which is critically important for maintaining social stability amid conflict. Observing sacred traditions together can become a symbol of hope for a peaceful future for all Ukrainians.
