President Meets with 'Servant of the People' Faction
During a meeting with the 'Servant of the People' parliamentary faction on May 25, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy indicated that the hot phase of the war could conclude by November, provided Ukraine receives security guarantees. Discussions at the event focused on prospects for ending active hostilities, as well as expectations for the appointment of a European moderator for the peace process and the arrival of a U.S. delegation. This meeting comes as Ukraine seeks to solidify international backing amid ongoing conflict.
Zelenskyy stated that ending the war's active phase hinges on the security assurances Ukraine secures. Key political figures attended the gathering, including Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk, First Deputy Speaker Oleksandr Korniyenko, Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov, and Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko. Details of the meeting were provided by lawmaker Olha Vasylevska-Smahliuk and faction leader David Arakhamia.
Peace Process Outlook
Olha Vasylevska-Smahliuk remarked:
“Right now, we hold an advantage on the front lines that we can leverage. The main goal is to prevent Russia from deceiving us and, after a brief pause, launching new combat operations or a fresh offensive.”- Olha Vasylevska-Smahliuk.
David Arakhamia also emphasized that
“we spoke candidly—about the war, economic challenges, and the state's primary task for the near future. We thank President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the frank conversation and the faction for the high turnout.”- David Arakhamia. He added that “the next six months should be a period of maximum focus and stabilization for the country's operations.”
The May 25 meeting marked a significant step in exploring pathways to end hostilities in Ukraine and bolster international support. The anticipated designation of a European representative to mediate the peace process and the arrival of a U.S. delegation are expected to be pivotal milestones in this effort.
These discussions highlight an intensification of Ukraine's diplomatic push toward achieving peace. Security guarantees, framed as a critical component for ending the war, underscore the importance of continued international backing for Ukraine during this challenging period. Furthermore, increased engagement from global partners could significantly influence regional stability and shape subsequent moves in the peace process.
