Address by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
On the 1,593rd day of the war, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy used his evening address to outline daily efforts to strengthen Ukraine's air defense systems. He stressed that securing missiles for Patriot systems remains the top priority. Recent reports indicate Ukraine has been in active discussions with partner nations—including the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, France, and the United States—to enhance its air defense capabilities.
Zelenskyy also cautioned that Russia is preparing another large-scale attack. According to intelligence, this strike could be scheduled after the U.S. Independence Day and before the NATO summit in Ankara. In response, the president announced a personal meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, set for July 8 during the NATO summit in Turkey. The White House has confirmed this meeting.
Frontline Situation and Presidential Appeals
In his address, Zelenskyy noted that fighting continues around Kostiantynivka and provided updated figures on Russian occupier losses. For June, Ukraine confirmed nearly 30,000 casualties among Russian forces, including both killed and severely wounded. The highest number of losses was recorded among Ukrainian units of the SBU's Alpha Special Operations Center.
Zelenskyy urged citizens to stay safe, remarking: 'Russia wants to add more evil and kill people. Please take care of yourselves and pay attention to air raid warnings.'
He also underscored the critical need for timely deliveries of air defense missiles, stating: 'Any delay in missiles for our air defense means lost lives, and it encourages Russia to keep fighting.' During the speech, the president also shared his view of Vladimir Putin, saying: 'In reality, he only has Moscow, St. Petersburg, and his residences.'
As a result, Ukraine continues to actively work on bolstering its defense capabilities, especially amid escalating frontline conditions and potential new threats from Russia. International military support—particularly the provision of air defense systems—is vital for Ukraine's security in the face of growing aggression. The upcoming meeting with the U.S. president at the NATO summit could mark a key step in strengthening strategic ties between the two nations and improving Ukraine's defensive effectiveness.
