Leadership Shifts Within the Presidential Office

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Ihor Brusylo from his role as Deputy Head of the Presidential Office and appointed him as Ukraine's new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Italian Republic. The dismissal is formalized by decree No. 216/2026, while Brusylo's new appointment is under decree No. 217/2026. He replaces Yaroslav Melnyk, who had served as ambassador to Italy since 2020. This diplomatic reshuffle comes as Ukraine seeks to strengthen its international partnerships amidst ongoing challenges.

Ihor Brusylo had held the position of Deputy Head of the Presidential Office since March 17, 2021, serving under Head of the Office Andriy Yermak. Prior to that appointment, Brusylo worked as the head of a department within the State Protocol and Ceremonial Service during the presidency of Petro Poroshenko. The unit, now known as the State Protocol and Ceremonial Service of the Presidential Office, handles official state ceremonies and diplomatic protocol.

National Security and Defense Council Meeting

In a separate development, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council, which focused on preparing the country's regions for the upcoming autumn-winter period. During the session, resilience plans were approved for all Ukrainian oblasts and regional centers, with the exception of Kyiv. Ensuring energy and infrastructure stability through the winter is a critical priority for the government.

The changes in Ukraine's diplomatic leadership may reflect President Zelenskyy's aim to optimize foreign policy and enhance the effectiveness of the nation's representation abroad. Appointing Brusylo as ambassador to Italy, a key European partner, could open new avenues for cooperation, particularly in the context of sustained international support for Ukraine. Furthermore, the active discussion on winter preparedness underscores the importance of ensuring national stability in the face of persistent energy and security challenges.
