Security Agreement with the United States Finalized
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has declared that a bilateral security agreement with the United States is now fully prepared. The text of the pact has been finalized in its entirety, according to Zelenskyy. Following its signing, the agreement will require ratification by both the U.S. Congress and Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada parliament. This agreement is a key component of the long-term security assurances pledged by Western allies to Ukraine.
Furthermore, the President stated that Ukraine will be technically ready to open all negotiation clusters for European Union membership in the first half of 2026. Full technical readiness is anticipated by 2027. Zelenskyy emphasized that achieving EU candidate status is viewed as a critical step toward ending the war in Ukraine and preventing broader conflict in Europe, serving as a guarantee of Ukraine's future within the EU.
Peace Plan Discussions in Abu Dhabi
During talks in Abu Dhabi, a 20-point peace plan was also discussed. The Ukrainian side insists on including a specific date for the war's conclusion in any final treaty. Zelenskyy noted,
"We want a concrete date in the treaty to end the war, so that all parties, including the aggressor, will then adhere to these agreements."He added,
"Everyone knows our position on territorial issues,"stressing that compromises must be reached by all sides involved.
The announcement of the finalized U.S. security pact and the accelerated EU accession timeline underscores the vital role of international support for Ukraine as the conflict continues. It also highlights Ukraine's determined push for deeper integration into European political and economic structures, a move with significant implications for regional stability. The Abu Dhabi negotiations point to Ukraine's efforts to secure a binding peace agreement, which could represent a pivotal step toward resolving the conflict and restoring the country's territorial integrity.
