Zelensky's statement on new American sanctions

The President of Ukraine stated in an interview that new American sanctions against Russia will strike at its military machine, but long-range missiles are needed to coerce Putin into peace.

Worrisome events of recent weeks

After Trump's refusal to supply Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, the diplomatic situation suddenly changed. Cancellation of the summit with Putin and the introduction of sanctions against Russia created a tense atmosphere.

'President Trump is concerned about the escalation. I think that if there are no negotiations, escalation will still happen. If Putin does not stop, we need something to stop him. Sanctions are one of those tools, but we also need long-range missiles,' Zelensky said.

Meeting with Trump and negotiations

During the meeting at the White House, the possibility of a peace agreement and Ukraine's request for Tomahawk missiles were discussed. Zelensky called the negotiations 'constructive' but challenging.

'My talks with President Trump were about pressure on Russia. I think he wanted to push them, but did not want to create escalation or close the window for diplomacy,' Zelensky noted.

Economic blow and Russia's reaction

Zelensky expressed hope for a 50% reduction in oil exports from Russia due to new American sanctions. He emphasized that the only way to force Putin into serious negotiations is by giving Ukraine the ability to strike Russian targets.

Situation at the front and hopes for future meetings

Zelensky denied information about Russian advances at the front and stated the need for pressure on Putin. He expressed hope that Trump's meeting with the head of China will yield positive results.

After American President Trump's refusal to supply Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, Zelensky expressed hope for the effectiveness of new sanctions against Russia, but believes that long-range missiles are also necessary to coerce Putin into negotiations. The Ukrainian president emphasizes diplomatic negotiations and support from the US in the confrontation with Russia.
