Zelenskyy Declares Russia's Spring Offensive a Failure, Citing Massive Equipment Losses

Президент України заявив, що наступ російських військ навесні зазнав серйозних невдач, вказуючи на величезні втрати техніки.

Assessment of the Russian Military's Spring Campaign

In a closed-door briefing for journalists, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy characterized the Russian military's spring offensive as a failure. He highlighted successful Ukrainian operations in the Kupiansk and southern sectors. According to Zelenskyy, Russian forces have been unable to mount a large-scale operation, with their actions being largely demonstrative. He also provided data on drone production plans and Russian troop movements.

The briefing, attended by the publication 'Glavcom', included intelligence maps detailing Russian strategic objectives for 2026-2027. Zelenskyy stated that Russia has placed an order for 7 million FPV drones, a figure that matches Ukraine's own production target. Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that Russia is forming units of 110,000 personnel, against an annual mobilization target of 400,000. Ukraine's stated goal is to eliminate at least 400,000 Russian troops per year.

The Situation on the Front Lines

Zelenskyy remarked that the Russian spring campaign has 'drowned in this spring.' He emphasized that while Russian forces are conducting offensive actions, their attempts to make breakthroughs are proving futile.

“They cannot break through anywhere with their equipment—we are burning it. That is why they have no large-scale operation underway,” the President noted.
He clarified that the Russians are attempting to act on various parts of the front, but Ukrainian defenders are successfully destroying them.

Zelenskyy added that the Russians are planning activity in the Zaporizhzhia, Pokrovsk, Huliaipole, and southern directions. In contrast, their actions in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions are, in his words, merely demonstrative, as sufficient forces are not currently present there.

“They moved everyone from there to Donbas, and then from Donbas to Huliaipole, to the south,” the President stated.

Overall, the situation on the front remains tense, yet Ukrainian forces are demonstrating effectiveness in countering the aggression.

“If this continues, they will have to make different decisions,” Zelenskyy summarized, underscoring the importance of continuing the fight.

President Zelenskyy's assessment of the Russian spring campaign reflects the Ukrainian side's confidence in its ability to withstand the invasion. The intelligence on Russia's long-term plans and mobilization efforts suggests a protracted conflict, requiring Ukraine to continually adapt its strategies. Sustained international support remains a critical factor for Ukraine's defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
