Presidential Statement on Ukraine's Security
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Russia shows no intention of ending the war and is instead preparing for fresh offensives. His remarks came at the close of the 1,538th day of the conflict. The next meeting of Ukraine's Supreme Commander-in-Chief Staff will prioritize defense against Russian aerial bombs, underscoring the ongoing security challenges.
Zelenskyy noted: 'We can also see that Russia has no intention of ending this war; unfortunately, we are preparing for new attacks. But peace must come. That is exactly what we are working toward.'
Diplomatic Outreach and International Partnerships
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Rustem Umerov reported on the outcomes of his trip to the United States. A key element of this diplomatic push is cooperation with 20 countries under the Drone Deals framework, with preparations underway for an agreement with Canada. A dedicated portion of the president's address focused on the rapidly advancing field of drone diplomacy.
Zelenskyy also highlighted the strategic objective of producing anti-ballistic missiles and other air defense systems within Ukraine.
'This is one of the most complex tasks, a strategic goal for Ukraine,'the president stated. Joint drone production with Berlin is already in progress, demonstrating active engagement with international partners in the defense sector.
Additionally, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius recently arrived in Kyiv, signaling intensified military cooperation between Ukraine and Germany. Army reforms are scheduled to begin in June. Around the same time, the first tranches of a European support package totaling €90 billion over two years are expected, which should significantly bolster the nation's defensive capabilities. According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine's technological development 'will not stop, and our country has the relevant capabilities.'
Ukraine continues to focus on strengthening its defense capacity, a critical priority given the threat of renewed Russian aggression. The involvement of international partners and active drone diplomacy indicate the country is seeking new ways to enhance its security. Preparations for army reform and the anticipated financial support from Europe could also become key factors in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities in the near future.
As Ukraine prepares for potential new offensives, the discussion around possible drone strikes on Moscow has gained traction, particularly in light of the upcoming May 9 commemorations. This highlights the increasing urgency for Ukraine to bolster its defense capabilities amid ongoing threats from Russia.
