Ukrainian President Meets with Croatian Prime Minister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on February 24. Their discussions centered on energy cooperation, security matters, and the steps Ukraine must take to achieve membership in the European Union. The talks also covered preparations for upcoming negotiations and potential trilateral meetings in Geneva.

Zelenskyy highlighted that Croatia is already supplying equipment to Ukrainian energy companies and expressed gratitude for the country's commitment to further aid in restoring Ukraine's energy sector.

“Thank you, Andrej, for this visit and for Croatia standing with Ukrainians and providing assistance throughout these years. I am grateful for your participation in the PURL program and the preparation of a new defense package,” the Ukrainian President stated.

Energy Minister's Site Visit

On the same day, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, alongside partners, inspected a Kyiv thermal power plant (TPP) that provides heating for 500,000 people in the capital. According to reports, over four years, Russia has launched 13 missile and drone attacks on this TPP, with nine of those strikes occurring in the last six months. An attack in January forced the station to halt electricity generation.

This high-level meeting underscores the intensifying international support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. As an EU member state, Croatia plays a significant role in providing critical assistance, including the transfer of vital energy equipment needed to rebuild Ukraine's battered infrastructure. The visit also highlights the importance of Ukraine's diplomatic efforts to secure its European future and regional stability.
