President Zelensky Meets with Germany’s Defense Minister in Berlin
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks in Berlin with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius focused on speeding up the supply of PAC-2 missiles for Patriot air defense systems, IRIS-T weaponry, and F-16 fighter jets. Zelensky also updated Pistorius on the ongoing Russian attacks targeting Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and highlighted a shortage of interceptors for the Patriot systems.
“We have a strong contract to purchase German-made PAC-2 missiles for the next two years. We are working to accelerate deliveries. This would greatly help Ukrainians endure the coming winter. German leadership has repeatedly played a crucial role in protecting thousands upon thousands of lives.” — Volodymyr Zelensky
Both leaders agreed to task their teams with exploring ways to expedite missile shipments and address additional defense needs, including IRIS-T systems and ammunition for F-16 aircraft.
Ukrainian Delegation Arrives in Germany
On November 3, President Zelensky led a Ukrainian delegation to Berlin, where he met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Merz pledged Germany’s provision of a winter support package to Ukraine. Discussions also covered ongoing air defense assistance, including supplies of PAC-2, PAC-3, and IRIS-T missiles.
Zelensky is scheduled to participate in this year’s Berlin Security Conference. Additionally, a coalition meeting announced by Chancellor Merz will take place in Berlin on November 19.
This visit marks a significant moment in Ukraine-Germany relations, underscoring Germany’s commitment to supporting Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. Given the escalating threats from Russia, accelerating arms deliveries and military aid is critical to bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities, especially during the harsh winter months. High-level engagements like these also highlight international solidarity and the collective resolve to uphold democratic values across Europe.
