Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Reaction to Vladimir Putin’s Statements

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has addressed Vladimir Putin’s recent claims about being open to direct negotiations, stressing that the meeting format must be defined and reliable security guarantees provided. The Ukrainian president noted that Kyiv should consider holding such talks, adding:

“Now Putin himself says he’s finally ready for real meetings—we gave him a little push, and we’ve been prepared for meetings for a long time.”
He further stated:
“Distance is becoming less important—we’ve demonstrated that with our long-range capabilities. Ukraine always acts clearly and honestly in this regard.”

Frontline Situation and International Diplomacy

In his evening address marking the 1,537th day of the war, Zelenskyy reported a tense frontline situation, with over 150 enemy assault operations and more than 100 shelling incidents recorded in a single day. Nearly 10,000 kamikaze drone strikes were also documented. As part of preparations for a prisoner exchange, Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters submitted lists in a ‘one thousand for one thousand’ format, with the United States acting as guarantor of the agreement.

The president also outlined a ‘mirror’ logic for using long-range weapons, which could significantly alter the course of events. Additionally, Zelenskyy announced a new agreement with Norway on joint production of 155-millimeter artillery shells, aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities. Among other key developments, the president held a phone call with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, reflecting active international diplomacy amid the war.

Zelenskyy’s response to Putin’s offers signals Ukraine’s willingness to pursue diplomatic initiatives, while underscoring the critical need for security and guarantees. The intense combat situation and relentless shelling make it clear that military operations continue, and peace talks can only be part of a much more complex picture. The deal with Norway highlights Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to bolster its own defense, which remains vital under current conditions. Active international diplomacy further underscores the support Ukraine receives from its partners in the struggle to restore peace in the region.

As Ukraine navigates the complexities of potential negotiations, the recent defense agreement with Norway highlights the ongoing preparations for winter and the strengthening of military capabilities. This strategic partnership underscores Ukraine's commitment to enhancing its defense amidst the evolving frontline situation.
