Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made it clear that Ukraine is not going to make any concessions and will not give up any territory to Russia. This became known ahead of the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, at which, according to analysts, the Kremlin may try to demand that Ukraine renounce the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. This was reported by Sky News based on materials from 'Glaicom.'
‘Vladimir Putin will start negotiations with Donald Trump, demanding Ukraine's complete renunciation of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, 75% and 99% of which are respectively occupied by Russia,’ it is stated.
Experts note that such an agreement would deprive Ukraine of strong defensive positions that hold back the movement of the occupiers and would give Russia the opportunity to advance into the country's territory without serious clashes. According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), this will create favorable conditions for future attacks, particularly on Kharkiv.
The Importance of Defensive Lines
Specialists emphasize: any peaceful resolution without reliable security guarantees and international control will only be a temporary pause before a new invasion. To prevent this, Ukraine's allies need to immediately invest in creating strong defensive lines in the open terrain of Donbas.
‘Due to the more open terrain, these borders are harder to defend, which gives the Kremlin the opportunity to more easily initiate a new offensive in the future,’ analysts summed up.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a limited ceasefire with Ukraine ahead of the summit with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky refuses concessions to Russia, giving them a chance to potentially demand control over Donbas from Kyiv. Experts argue that resilient defensive lines are necessary to prevent new Russian aggression in the future.
