Ukraine's Women's Handball Team at the 2026 European Championship

The draw for the 2026 Women's European Handball Championship will take place on April 16 at 19:00, placing the 24 participating teams into their initial groups. Ukraine's national team has been seeded into the fourth and final pot for this draw. The tournament will feature host nations and medalists from the previous championship, showcasing the continent's top talent.

This will mark Ukraine's 13th appearance at the European Championship, with their best result being a silver medal won at Euro 2000. Of the 24 teams in the draw, 16 qualified through the qualification process. The five nations co-hosting the tournament are:

  • Czechia
  • Poland
  • Romania
  • Slovakia
  • Türkiye

Additionally, three teams—Norway, Denmark, and Hungary—received direct entry as medalists from Euro 2024.

Seeding Pots and Group Composition

For the draw, the teams have been divided into four seeding pots, each containing six national sides. The pots are as follows:

  • Pot 1: Norway, Denmark, Hungary, France, Sweden, Netherlands
  • Pot 2: Germany, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Spain, Czechia
  • Pot 3: Türkiye, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria, Faroe Islands
  • Pot 4: Croatia, Serbia, Iceland, North Macedonia, Ukraine, Greece

The draw will split the teams into six groups of four. Six countries already know their group assignments: Hungary, Romania, Poland, Czechia, Türkiye, and Slovakia, as they will play in specific host cities. The preliminary round matches will be held across six venues in Oradea, Cluj-Napoca, Antalya, Brno, Katowice, and Bratislava. The top two teams from each preliminary group will advance to the main round, which will be played in Cluj-Napoca (Groups A, B, C) and Katowice (Groups D, E, F).

Ukraine secured their place in the tournament via the third-placed team ranking, despite losing their final qualifying match to Serbia 30-21. The semi-finals and final are scheduled for December 18 and 20, 2026, respectively, with both stages taking place in Katowice.

Ukraine's handball team continues its tradition of competing in major international tournaments, overcoming significant challenges during the qualification phase.

Being placed in the fourth seeding pot indicates a challenging path to advance from the group stage. However, the team's extensive experience at the European level could prove invaluable for the future development of handball in Ukraine. The draw on April 14, 2026, will ultimately determine the team's group opponents and their chances of progressing to the main stage of the competition.
