Weather Shift Forecast for Ukraine
A warm atmospheric front originating from the west is set to alter Ukraine's weather on February 12. Meteorologist Natalia Didenko reports that rain and a warming trend will persist into the start of next week. Showers are expected across the country, with wet snow possible in places, particularly in the western and northern regions. Elsewhere, cloudy conditions will prevail with no significant precipitation.
Winds will be southerly, gusty, and often strong throughout the day. Nighttime temperatures will range from +2 to +3 degrees Celsius across most of the territory, while in the eastern part, they will drop to between -5 and -12 degrees. Daytime highs are expected to be around +1 to +4 degrees, rising to +4 to +8 in the south and west, and reaching up to +10 degrees in Crimea.
Kyiv Forecast and Public Advisory
In the capital, Kyiv, nighttime temperatures will hover around zero, with daytime readings between +1 and +3 degrees. This period of damp, mild weather will last until the beginning of the following week. According to Natalia Didenko, a moderate cooldown is forecast starting Monday, February 16.
"Due to the thaw, it's especially important to choose footwear carefully to avoid getting wet, and not to forget hats and scarves because of the strong wind." Natalia Didenko
The meteorologist also warned that icicles and chunks of snow are already beginning to loosen, so people should avoid lingering near buildings.
This February warm spell, while common in transitional seasons, can have mixed effects. The approaching warmth may impact agriculture, as an unexpected thaw could accelerate snowmelt and activate vegetation prematurely. Simultaneously, the forecasted rains could help improve soil moisture levels, which is crucial for future crop yields. However, caution is advised due to thaw-related hazards like falling icicles, underscoring the importance of heeding forecasters' recommendations during this period.
