Ukrainian Armed Forces Halt Operation of Oil Refinery in Sizran: Key Installation Damaged

Збройні Сили України зупинили діяльність нафтопереробного заводу в Сизрані: важливий об'єкт зазнав ушкоджень.

Strike on Oil Refinery in Sizran

On December 5, 2025, the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck the oil refinery in Sizran, leading to a halt in its operations. As a result of the attack, the primary oil processing installation ELOU-AVT-6 was damaged, which had already been attacked on August 30, 2025. Recovery work following this previous attack lasted approximately two weeks.

The Sizran oil refinery processed about 4.3 million tons of oil in 2024, while its designed capacity is 7 million tons. In November 2025, the Ukrainian military carried out at least 14 attacks on Russian oil refineries. According to forecasts from the International Energy Agency, a decline in oil processing rates at Russian refineries is expected by mid-2026.

Impact on the Energy Sector

Moreover, crude oil processing in Russia has decreased by approximately 500,000 barrels per day, indicating negative trends in the energy sector. The attack on the oil refinery in Sizran is part of a broader strategy of the Ukrainian military in the context of the armed conflict.

This attack highlights the continuation of Ukrainian military actions aimed at reducing Russia's energy capabilities amid a prolonged war.

The loss of refining capacity will impact the overall economy of Russia, as the energy sector remains one of the key sources of revenue for the country. Monitoring further changes in the energy sector may provide insight into the development of the conflict and its impact on regional stability.
