New Missile Systems Enter Service

According to Главком: Japan's Ministry of Defense has begun deploying upgraded Type-12 cruise missiles, whose operational range has been extended from 200 to over 1,000 kilometers. The first units equipped with these domestically developed missiles have already been dispatched from the U.S. Forces' Camp Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture. Vehicles carrying the missile equipment arrived at Camp Kengun early Monday morning. This significant range enhancement is a notable shift in Japan's traditionally defensive posture.

Furthermore, the ministry plans to deploy the Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectile (HVGP) land-based missile system at Camp Fuji later this month. Japan also intends to integrate these missiles onto naval vessels and aircraft, with the full network expected to be operational by 2027. Officials in Tokyo have stated that these new capabilities will provide the country with a credible counterstrike option against potential threats.

Support for Ukraine's Reconstruction

Alongside these military initiatives, Japan has allocated $41 million for the reconstruction of Ukrainian infrastructure. This funding is a grant for the fifth phase of the Emergency Recovery Program. The funds will be distributed through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), focusing on four priority areas:

• Support for the agricultural sector
• Support for public broadcasting
