According to НОК: From September 11 to 13 in Budapest, Yaroslava Mahuchikh secured a groundbreaking victory by becoming the inaugural women’s high jump champion at the World Athletics Absolute Championships. Competing alongside two fellow Ukrainian athletes, Mahuchikh delivered an outstanding performance, clearing 1.91 m and 1.95 m on her first attempts. She clinched the title by successfully jumping 1.99 m on her second try.

The decisive moment came when Mahuchikh’s main rival, Australian Nicola Olyslagers, failed to surpass the 1.99 m mark. Mahuchikh then challenged herself with a 2.04 m jump, which would have set a new personal and season-best record, surpassing her previous top mark of 2.03 m established in January.

Ukraine’s Strong Presence in Women’s High Jump

Besides Mahuchikh, Ukraine was represented by Irina Gerashchenko and Yuliya Levchenko in the women’s high jump event. Gerashchenko finished 5th with a jump of 1.91 m, while Levchenko came in 6th at 1.86 m. The Absolute Championships brought together elite athletes from every track and field discipline, highlighting the intense level of competition on the global stage.

Mahuchikh’s victory marks a significant milestone for Ukrainian athletics, as she is the first-ever athlete to claim this title in the history of the event.
